Adventures in Food Alchemy

Bread is amazing.  With basically the same 3 ingredients, you can make dozens, possibly hundreds, of types of bread.  With flour, water, yeast and time, you, too, can have a heavenly-scented kitchen.  Last night, I made bagels for the first time.  I measured, stirred...waited...kneaded...waited...waited some more...boiled, baked...waited...then ate.  There is more time waiting for these to rise, rest, and bake then there is eating them.  Baking brings me joy and satisfies an ancient urge to create.  It is food alchemy.  Three simple ingredients magically transformed into culinary bliss.  Unfortunately, these delicious morsels won't last long.  My husband has a late night tonight, so I anticipate waking up to crumbs.  My soul is satisfied, my belly full, and my home smells wonderful.  What could be better?  More bagels.
